Who Is Rick Peroomal?
Rick Peroomal is a 63-year-old builder and personal trainer who competed on season 22 of The Block Australia in 2026. He and his daughter Tayla, from Altona in Victoria, were one of five teams renovating beach houses at Mount Eliza on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Rick is a long-time fan of the show who had thought the experience would provide a distraction after a difficult period in his life, and he originally applied with one daughter before later auditioning with her twin, Tayla. The pair confessed they thought they would win the competition.
Early Life & Background
Rick tackled his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship in his teens and has spent most of his career in building, giving him genuine trade knowledge that many Block contestants lack. He is also a personal trainer, and his neat-freak streak became a running joke on the show: he said he was more stressed about the state of the shared bathroom in the contestants’ house than about much else. Tayla, his teammate, has said she has put together every piece of furniture in her own house herself, and that if anything needs fixing, she is the one to do it.
The Block 2026 Journey
Rick and Tayla started The Block 2026 as House 5, the Green team. They won the Main Ensuite in week 4 and the Front Yard and Facade in week 12, showing their strength in both interior and exterior work. Like every team, they faced the show’s trademark pressure of weekly room reveals, budgets and deadlines, all while living in the shared contestants’ house in Mount Eliza, a first for the series. Their house carried a reserve of $3.45 million going into auction week. The season’s auctions took place on October 31, 2026, with the finale episode airing on November 1, 2026. Rick and Tayla finished second on The Block 2026: their House 5 sold at auction for $4,355,000, a $905,000 profit above its reserve.
