Who Is Nate Johnson?
Nate Johnson is a Dallas-based director of sales who joined The Amazing Race season 39 with his brother Zach Johnson, 30, a car salesman and co-founder of Pipley. The brothers were introduced as one of 13 teams chasing the $1 million prize on a race spanning five continents and nine countries, beginning at Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver.
As the younger brother in a sales-minded pair, Nate brought a leadership style shaped by his work: setting targets, communicating clearly and keeping a team moving when a plan changes. Those skills are valuable on The Amazing Race, where a wrong turn, a missed clue or a slow Detour choice can end a team’s race in a single leg, and where partners must trust each other completely.
Nate’s race, however, lasted only one leg. He and Zach arrived last at the first Pit Stop at VanDusen Botanical Garden and were eliminated in 13th place, making them the season’s first elimination. It was a sharp reminder of how unforgiving the opening leg can be: there is no time to settle in, learn the rhythm of the race or recover from an early mistake.
Early Life & Background
Nate Johnson is from Dallas, Texas, where he and Zach were both based when the season was cast. Growing up with an older brother gave Nate a ready-made racing partner: someone whose strengths, weaknesses and habits he already understood, and whose support he could rely on far from home.
Before the race, Nate was not a television personality. He built his career in sales, rising to director of sales, a role that rewards organization, persuasion and calm decision-making. That professional background was part of the brothers’ story on the show: two Dallas salesmen who believed their everyday working skills would translate to the racecourse.
Career/Journey
Nate Johnson works as a director of sales in Dallas, while his brother Zach works as a car salesman and co-founder of Pipley. Together, they entered The Amazing Race 39 as a confident, competitive pair, and they began the season with the same advantage as every other team: an Express Pass handed out at the starting line in a first-ever twist for the series.
The opening leg in Vancouver included a Roadblock at BC Place, where one racer climbed into the stadium catwalk and took a bungee swing from a height, followed by a Detour and the Pit Stop at VanDusen Botanical Garden. Nate and Zach could not keep pace with the other 12 teams, and they finished last, ending their season in Leg 1. The standings record their result as eliminated first in Vancouver, Canada.
The Amazing Race 39 premiered on CBS on September 30, 2026, hosted by Phil Keoghan, and continued with episode seven, “The Amazing Nightmare,” airing on November 4, 2026. Although Nate’s journey ended in the premiere, being cast among only 13 teams remains a notable credit, and his elimination opened a season that went on through Spain, Morocco and Albania in its first five legs.
