Matt Patterson Age, Partner & Biography

Matt Patterson is a 36-year-old business operations director from Rutherford, New Jersey, who is racing on The Amazing Race season 39 in 2026 with his wife, Michelle Patterson. The married parents are among the eight teams still racing after the first six legs of the CBS season, and their partnership — built at home and at work — has carried them through a race that tests couples as much as it tests travelers.

Who Is Matt Patterson?

Matt Patterson is a reality television contestant from Rutherford, New Jersey, who is competing on The Amazing Race season 39 with his wife, Michelle Patterson, 31. The couple were introduced when the season’s cast was announced in 2026 as married parents, and they race as a team whose everyday life already involves running businesses and raising a family together.

Matt works as a business operations director, while Michelle owns an auto body shop and works in real estate. That shared experience of running things — schedules, budgets, people, problems — is exactly what The Amazing Race tests, and the Pattersons have leaned on it as they have navigated airports, foreign cities and high-pressure challenges.

Early Life & Background

Matt Patterson is based in Rutherford, a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York City. He and Michelle built their family life there, and they entered The Amazing Race as working parents, a background that sets them apart from the professional athletes and performers elsewhere in the season 39 cast.

Before the race, the Pattersons were best known in their local community as business owners. Their appearance on a national television competition brought that everyday life into the spotlight, and their cast bios presented them as a couple who are used to solving problems together, whether at home, at work or on the road.

Career/Journey

Matt Patterson’s public profile began with The Amazing Race season 39, which premiered on CBS on September 30, 2026. The season, hosted by Phil Keoghan, sends 13 teams across five continents, and it was filmed in May and June 2026. The Pattersons race against teams including former professional soccer players Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman, Marine Corps officer Riley Tejcek and her mother Ann-Marie, and a mix of friends, siblings and couples from across the United States.

For Matt and Michelle, the race is a test of a marriage as much as a test of travel skills. Married couples have a long history on The Amazing Race, and the strongest among them tend to be the pairs who communicate clearly, play to each other’s strengths and recover quickly from mistakes. The Pattersons’ journey through the season, including the November 4, 2026 episode “The Amazing Nightmare,” has put all of that to the test on Wednesday nights on CBS.

Whatever the final result, the season has made Matt Patterson a familiar face to the show’s audience, and his profile as a contestant continues to grow as new episodes air and viewers follow the Pattersons’ progress around the world.
