Known as “The Man” since 2018, Lynch became a cultural phenomenon, transcending wrestling with mainstream media appearances and a New York Times bestselling autobiography. Her 2019 Royal Rumble win and her WrestleMania 35 main event victory made her the defining women’s wrestler of her era.
Early Life & Background
Rebecca Quin was born on January 30, 1987, in Limerick, Ireland. She became interested in professional wrestling as a teenager and trained under Finn Bálor and Paul Tracey, as well as at NWA UK Hammerlock in England. She made her professional wrestling debut on November 11, 2002, under the name Rebecca Knox, wrestling across Europe before signing with WWE in April 2013.
Lynch’s early career took her around the world, and she built a reputation as a tough, technically skilled performer long before she reached WWE. Her experience on the independent circuit gave her the foundation for a main roster career that would eventually make her one of the most decorated wrestlers, male or female, in company history.
Career & Journey
After signing with WWE in April 2013, Lynch worked her way through NXT and debuted on the main roster in 2015. In 2016, she became the inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion, the first of her five reigns with that title and its successor, the Women’s World Championship. Her “The Man” persona, launched in 2018, turned her into WWE’s most popular star, and she won the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble.
At WrestleMania 35 in 2019, Lynch defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first women’s main event in WrestleMania history, winning both the Raw and SmackDown women’s titles at the same time. She went on to add two Raw Women’s Championship reigns and a record three Women’s Intercontinental Championship reigns, completing both the Women’s Triple Crown and the Women’s Grand Slam.
Outside the ring, Lynch published her autobiography on March 26, 2024, which became a New York Times bestseller, and she became a United States citizen in 2024. She returned to WWE on August 3, 2026, after time away with broken vertebrae, and immediately re-entered the title picture. At Money in the Bank on October 10, 2026, she challenged for the Women’s World Championship in a triple threat match won by Liv Morgan, and she lost a rematch to Morgan on the October 26, 2026 episode of Raw, keeping their rivalry alive into Survivor Series season.
