Who Is Kylie Jenner?

Kylie Jenner is an American reality television star and businesswoman who first became known as the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She began appearing on the show at the age of nine and, as a teenager, became one of the most followed people on social media, turning that attention into a beauty empire.

Her older sister is Kim Kardashian, and the two have often worked together on fashion and beauty projects. Jenner’s own brand, Kylie Cosmetics, made her one of the youngest self-made billionaires on paper when she sold a majority stake to Coty in 2019, although her fortune has since been reassessed. She remains one of the most influential figures in beauty and social media.

Kylie Jenner’s Early Life & Background

Kylie Jenner was born on August 10, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, to Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner, then known as Bruce Jenner. She grew up in Calabasas, California, with her older sister Kendall Jenner and her half-sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, and her half-brother Rob Kardashian. She attended Sierra Canyon School before switching to homeschooling.

She made her television debut on Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007, when she was nine years old. As a teenager she began modelling, appearing in magazines and walking in New York Fashion Week, and launched a clothing line with her sister Kendall. Her interest in makeup led her to experiment with lip products, which would later become the foundation of her business.

Kylie Jenner’s Career

In 2015 Jenner launched the Kylie Lip Kit, a set of lip liners and liquid lipsticks that sold out within minutes and quickly expanded into Kylie Cosmetics. The brand grew into a full beauty line, and in 2019 she sold a 51 percent stake to the cosmetics company Coty for $600 million. She later launched Kylie Skin, a skincare line, and Khy, a fashion brand, and continued to star in The Kardashians on Hulu.

Jenner has been one of the most followed people on Instagram for several years, with hundreds of millions of followers, and her posts regularly set records for engagement. She has appeared on the covers of major magazines, launched collaborations with leading fashion houses and, in 2023, began a relationship with actor Timothée Chalamet, with the couple making red-carpet appearances together in the years that followed.
