Who Is Rick Devens?

Rick Devens is a 42-year-old communications director from Macon, Georgia, who is best known to reality television viewers from Survivor before he joined Big Brother. He had competed on Survivor: Edge of Extinction and was also part of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, so he arrived in the Big Brother house with a clear understanding of social strategy, jury management and the pressure of living under constant observation. On Big Brother 28, subtitled Time Trip, he was presented as one of the season’s returning reality figures, alongside Survivor winner Dee Valladares and Big Brother 26 houseguest Angela Murray.

Early Life & Background

The public cast record for Devens centers on his home city and his professional life rather than on private family detail. He is listed as a Macon, Georgia, resident working as a communications director, a role that involves clear messaging, relationship building and handling public attention. Those skills translated directly to the Big Brother house, where he had to explain his decisions, calm tense conversations and keep allies informed without giving away too much. His earlier Survivor appearances had already tested him in a very different setting, where endurance, adaptability and reading other players mattered as much as winning challenges.

Big Brother 28 Journey

Devens entered Big Brother 28 through a Survivor-inspired opening sequence and quickly became a central player. He won the second Head of Household competition of the season and later secured a Diamond Power of Veto through the BB Time Capsule twist, a secret advantage he used at a decisive point in the game. He also worked closely with Dee Valladares, forming an alliance that helped both players survive the middle weeks. After Dee was evicted on Day 80, Devens reached the final three with Taylor Brown and Drew Campbell. As Head of Household in the final round, he chose to evict Drew on Day 87 and faced Taylor in the finale, where the jury voted 6-1 for Devens.

Career

Outside reality television, Devens works as a communications director. His television career began with Survivor, where he competed on Edge of Extinction and later returned for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. Big Brother 28 added a different kind of test: instead of a remote island, the game took place inside a house, with nominations, veto meetings and live eviction votes each week. His win made him the first Survivor contestant to win Big Brother, and his America’s Favorite Houseguest win made him only the second Big Brother winner to take that audience prize as well, after Taylor Hale on Big Brother 24.
