Who Is Penta?
Penta is a Mexican professional wrestler signed to WWE, where he performs on the Raw brand under the ring name Penta. He is a former Intercontinental Champion and the winner of the 2026 men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and he is one of the most recognisable masked wrestlers in the world, known for his “Cero Miedo” — Spanish for “Zero Fear” — catchphrase, his black-and-white mask and his high-flying, hard-hitting lucha libre style. He is the older brother of Rey Fénix, with whom he formed the Lucha Brothers tag team, one of the most decorated teams in modern wrestling.
Penta’s real name has never been publicly revealed, in keeping with the tradition of masked luchadores in Mexico, where the mask is sacred and the wrestler’s identity is protected. He has three daughters, and he owns a lucha libre school in Mexico, which he opened in 2020, as well as a carnitas restaurant called Chanchos Beer in Teotihuacán, which opened in 2024. He has been a close friend of NFL star George Kittle, who regularly incorporates Penta’s “Cero Miedo” celebration into his touchdown celebrations.
Early Life & Background
Penta was born on February 5, 1985, in Ecatepec de Morelos, in the State of Mexico, and he grew up in the same town, where he developed a love for lucha libre, the Mexican style of professional wrestling, at a young age. He was trained by Gran Apache and Skayde, two of the most respected trainers in Mexican wrestling, and he made his professional debut in 2007, wrestling in Mexico City and the surrounding area under the name Zaius. He later wrestled as Dark Dragon and as Pentagón Jr., the name he used for most of his career, taking the name of the legendary Pentagón character, who was the arch-enemy of Octagón.
Penta has said little in public about his family, but it is known that he has a younger brother, Rey Fénix, who followed him into wrestling and became one of the most celebrated luchadores of his generation. The brothers have teamed together for most of their careers, and they have won tag team championships in almost every promotion they have worked for. Penta has three daughters, and he has said that he wants to be a role model for them, and for young people in Mexico who dream of becoming wrestlers.
Penta’s Career
Penta’s career in Mexico took off in 2010, when he began working for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), Mexico’s biggest wrestling promotion, where he won the AAA Latin American Championship, the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship and the AAA World Tag Team Championship, and he won the 2016 Rey de Reyes tournament. He also starred in Lucha Underground, an American television series that aired from 2014 to 2018, where he won the Lucha Underground Championship twice and the Gift of the Gods Championship, and he became one of the show’s most popular stars. He left AAA in January 2017, citing unhappiness at feeling restricted, and he worked on the independent circuit, in Major League Wrestling and in Impact Wrestling, where he won the Impact World Championship in 2018.
Penta signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2019, along with his brother Rey Fénix, and the brothers became one of the company’s most popular teams as the Lucha Brothers, winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship in 2021 and the AEW World Trios Championship in 2022 as part of Death Triangle, a stable with Pac. He left AEW in December 2024, and he signed with WWE in 2025, making his debut on the January 13, 2025, episode of Raw, where he defeated Chad Gable, and he spent the longest time in the 2025 Royal Rumble match. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio on March 2, 2026, becoming the first Mexican-born wrestler to win the title, and he defended it at WrestleMania 42 on April 19, 2026, in a six-man ladder match. He lost the title to Chad Gable at SummerSlam 2026, ending a 153-day reign, and he won the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match on October 10, 2026. At Crown Jewel 2026, he teams with Je’Von Evans to challenge Bron Breakker and Austin Theory for the World Tag Team Championship.
